There is something incredibly special about July on the coast—the temperatures heat up just enough for us to truly appreciate the spaces we call home, especially the outside areas. Whether you are spending your afternoons firing up the grill, relaxing on the porch, or welcoming friends and family for summer get-togethers, this month is all about embracing the effortless comfort of home.

That same welcoming energy is vibrant across our local communities right now, making it a fantastic time to explore everything our area has to offer. In this edition, we’ve gathered a packed lineup of mid-summer traditions, from classic small-town fireworks and beachside celebrations to live music under the stars in our beautiful state parks. Grab a cold drink, prop open that screen door, and dive into a perfect July ahead!

There are many events happening throughout the area, we are hoping you will do your own exploring and research to find what is best for you and your schedule. Here are a few events of note:

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

July 3 (9:00 PM) | Berlin Independence Day Fireworks Heron Park, Berlin, MD Beat the major crowds on the 4th and start the holiday early with a beautiful fireworks display visible across town.

July 4 (Events Start at Noon, Fireworks at Dusk) | Bethany Beach 4th of July Celebration

The Boardwalk & Downtown, Bethany Beach, DE Featuring a live performance by The Funsters at 7:30 PM on the bandstand, and grand fireworks over the ocean at dusk.

July 4 (9:00 AM – Dusk) | Lewes Old-Fashioned 4th of July

Second Street & Canalfront Park, Lewes, DE Old-fashioned children's games on Second Street, a boat parade at 1:30 PM along the canal, the Doo-Dah parade at 5:00 PM, and fireworks over the bay at dusk.

July 4 (8:00 PM Concert, 9:30 PM Fireworks) | Ocean City Independence Day Spectacular

Downtown Beach (N. Division St.) & Uptown (Northside Park) Ocean City hosts simultaneous free concerts at 8:00 PM on both the downtown beach and at Northside Park, followed by synchronized fireworks displays at 9:30 PM.

July 5 (8:00 PM Concert, 9:30 PM Fireworks) | Rehoboth Beach Independence Day Fireworks

The Bandstand & Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, DE Keep the holiday energy going into Sunday night! Enjoy a live concert at the Bandstand starting at 8:00 PM, with spectacular fireworks launching over the ocean at 9:30 PM.

July 11 (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) | 42nd Annual Sandcastle Contest

Fisherman's Shipwreck Beach, Rehoboth Beach, DE Watch incredible, intricate sculptures come to life in the sand. Express your creativity or browse the spectacular creations along the shoreline. Free viewing for the public.

July 16 – 19 | Ocean City Jeep Fest Inlet Lot & Downtown Boardwalk, Ocean City, MD An absolute paradise for off-road enthusiasts. Features daily beach crawls on the historic OC boardwalk, beach obstacle courses, and a massive vendor display.

July 17 (6:00 PM – 8:00 PM) | Trap Pond State Park: Summer Concert Series The Amphitheater at Trap Pond State Park, Laurel, DE Unwind under the bald cypress trees with an evening of live, outdoor music. Bring your favorite lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic basket for a perfect summer night in the park.

July 21 (6:00 PM – 8:00 PM) | Holts Landing State Park: Summer Concerts by the Bay The Pavilion at Holts Landing State Park, Dagsboro, DE Enjoy a breezy Tuesday evening of live music right by the Indian River Bay. It’s a wonderful, relaxing mid-week escape with beautiful coastal park views.

July 24 – 26 | 35th Annual Greek Festival St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Ocean City, MD Celebrate Greek culture with authentic homemade food, traditional desserts like baklava, live music, folk dancing performances, and a vibrant marketplace.

July 25 (8:00 PM – 11:00 PM) | Delaware State Parks Summer Movie Night Killens Pond State Park, Felton, DE Pack your lawn chairs, blankets, and flashlights for a fun family night under the stars featuring a special outdoor screening of Finding Nemo.

EARLY AUGUST EVENTS

August 1 (10:00 AM) | Berlin Peach Festival Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, Berlin, MD A beautiful town tradition celebrating the local harvest! Head to the museum grounds for a day entirely dedicated to everything peach, featuring fresh local pies, crafts, and live music.

August 3 – 7 | 53rd Annual White Marlin Open Harbour Island Marina, Ocean City, MD Witness the excitement of the world's largest billfish tournament. Watch from the docks as multimillion-dollar catches are weighed in each afternoon in a thrilling local tradition.

Bethany Bandstand Events - Bandstand performances continue through September and October on Friday and Saturday nights.

Freeman Stage - an outdoor performing arts venue located in Selbyville, DE and is home to more than 70 live performances each summer. Including a diverse range of genres like theatre, concerts, dance, comedy, children’s shows and much more.

The Listening Booth - We’re Listening, is a 501c3 organization that is focused on combating loneliness through the arts, most notably original music, songwriting and storytelling. Offering opportunities for musicians and songwriters under our venue name, The Listening Booth. Check out the schedule!

Recipe of the Month: Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Credit: Taste Better Than Scratch

This old fashioned Peach Cobbler recipe is not only extremely easy to make from scratch, but it's made with fresh or canned peaches so you can enjoy it all year round!

Servings: 9 Prep Time: 55 mins (including baking time)

Ingredients

5 peaches, peeled, cored and sliced (about 4 cups)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

For the batter:

6 Tablespoons butter

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup milk

Ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F; You will need a 13” x 12” glass baking dish is needed.

Step 1

Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. 


Step 2

Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helps to bring out juices from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 3

Slice butter into pieces and add to a baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.

Step 4

In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.

Step 5

Spoon the peaches and juice over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.

Step 6

Bake at 350 degrees for about 38-40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.
